A tech professional’s viral career story is inspiring job seekers after he revealed how strategic job switches, negotiation and continuous learning helped him grow from Rs 1.84 LPA to Rs 75 LPA.

At a time when college pedigree and layoffs often dominate career discussions, a professional’s journey from a Tier-3 college to a Rs 75 lakh annual package is drawing attention online.

The man shared that he completed a B.Sc. in Mathematics with Computer Applications from a Tier-3 college and did not have an IIT, IIM or B.Tech background. He began his career with a salary of Rs 1.84 lakh per annum in a WITCH company.

According to his post, he started in a service desk role where he learned communication skills, customer handling and basic technical processes. Over time, he moved internally into better roles and gradually built his experience.

After four years, his salary reportedly reached Rs 4.5 LPA. He said the turning point came during the Covid period, when he switched to a Big 4 company and increased his package to Rs 8 LPA.

He later re-entered the job market and focused on securing multiple offers before making a decision. This strategy helped him negotiate strongly and jump from Rs 8 LPA to Rs 17.4 LPA.

“I went from 8 LPA to 17.4 LPA simply by not settling for the first offer. Negotiating is a skill,” he wrote.

Between the sixth and eighth year of his career, he stayed with one company where regular hikes reportedly took his pay to Rs 30 LPA. He later moved to a startup, increasing his package further to Rs 42.2 LPA.

The next phase brought uncertainty when he was laid off. However, he used the notice period and severance time to prepare for new opportunities, eventually securing a role paying Rs 75 LPA.

“Getting laid off at 42 LPA felt scary, but it actually provided the bridge to 75 LPA,” he said.

He also shared a practical learning mindset, writing, “Every job I joined, I learned a new skill. I read about the skill set and tech they needed, then learned on the job and mastered the skills.”

The professional advised others not to feel limited by college background or degree type. He said the first job may depend on qualifications, but long-term growth often depends on skills, consistency, timing and decision-making.

His story has sparked wider conversations online about non-linear career growth, self-learning and the importance of adapting to market opportunities.
