The Shark Tank India judge said she has faced weeks of online abuse after sharing a reel about the health benefits of namaz and urged people to speak up against disrespect.

Shark Tank India judge and entrepreneur Namita Thapar has responded to online backlash after her social media reel discussing the health benefits of namaz triggered controversy.

In a video statement shared on social media, Namita said she has been facing abusive comments for nearly three weeks after posting the clip. She also alleged that trolls targeted her mother with offensive language.

Addressing the criticism, Namita said the reel was created from a health and wellness perspective, not a religious one. She explained that as a healthcare professional, she has previously created similar content highlighting the benefits of several Hindu practices as well.

“I have made many reels about Hindu practices and their health benefits too. Every Yoga Day, I create content on asanas, especially Surya Namaskar. No one objected then,” she said.

Namita added that she was raised to believe religion should be based on mutual respect. She questioned why abusive behaviour, especially towards women, often goes unchallenged online.

She further said she has learned over the years that people often need to defend themselves publicly when targeted unfairly.

The controversy began after Namita posted a reel around Eid, saying close friends had explained to her some health benefits associated with namaz. In the video, she described namaz as a form of full-body movement that may support flexibility, digestion and mental well-being.

The post quickly gained attention online. While some users appreciated the wellness-focused perspective, others criticised the comparison and questioned why similar emphasis was not given to Hindu traditions such as yoga and Surya Namaskar.

Some social media users also resurfaced an older clip in which Namita had said external appearances or rituals alone do not define values, and that kindness matters more.

Her latest response has now sparked fresh discussion online around trolling, women in public life, religious sensitivity and the tone of debate on social media platforms.

Namita, one of the most recognised faces from Shark Tank India, is known for regularly sharing business, health and motivational content with followers.
