Pimpri-Chinchwad city has witnessed a significant decrease in noise levels during this year’s Ganesh Visarjan procession, mirroring the trend observed in Pune. The initiative to reduce noise pollution has been successful, thanks to the efforts of local authorities and some community groups.

The city’s traditional approach to Ganeshotsav celebrations has contributed to the reduced noise levels. Immersion processions were conducted using traditional instruments, minimizing disruption. This year’s decrease in noise pollution is notable compared to last year’s levels.

Data from the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board reveals that noise levels were recorded at three major locations: Pimpri, Chinchwad, and Bhosari. The results showed that Bhosari recorded the lowest noise level at 78 decibels, followed by Pimpri and Chinchwad.

Several factors contributed to the decrease in noise pollution:

The use of traditional drums and Dhol Tasha, Band groups

Fewer instances of loudspeakers and DJ systems

Early conclusion of processions by public bodies

However, areas like Thergaon and Wakad saw widespread use of DJ, and laser lights, leading to delayed processions and increased noise levels.

Notably, Shantinagar area in Pimpri, which recorded the highest noise level last year, saw a significant decrease this year.

The collective efforts of local authorities and community groups have ensured a more peaceful and enjoyable experience for citizens during the Ganeshotsav celebrations.
