Pune, November 7, 2024: To enable all voters to exercise their voting rights in the upcoming Assembly elections, the District Collector Dr. Suhas Divase has instructed all establishments under the Department of Industry to provide a paid holiday or a minimum of two hours’ leave to their officers, workers, and employees on November 20, 2024, which is the designated voting day.

Dr. Divase shared that a circular issued by the Department of Industries, Energy, Labour, and Mining emphasizes compliance with Section 135(b) of the Representation of the People Act, 1951. According to this provision, all businesses, trades, industries, or other establishments within the voting jurisdiction are required to grant paid leave on election day to eligible voters employed within their organizations.

This paid leave applies to all industrial groups, corporations, companies, institutions, and other establishments under the Industry Department. No wage deductions will be permitted due to this sanctioned voting leave.

In exceptional cases where a full day’s leave is not feasible, workers within the voting area must be allowed at least two hours’ leave to cast their vote, provided they obtain prior permission from the District Collector or District Election Officer. All establishments must ensure voters receive a minimum of two hours for voting, or face legal action.

The district election administration has made it clear that any complaints about voters not receiving adequate leave or permission to vote will result in strict action against the responsible establishment.
