On the cards: Double-decker buses on Pune roads

A meeting was held at the head office of Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) on Monday and PMPML chairman and managing director (CMD) Om Prakash Bakoria has asked senior officials to check the viability of starting double-decker bus services in the city.

The transport system of the city is struggling to match up with the swelling population of Pune. Traffic jams have become the norm and the infrastructure development work is only making the matter worse. To address the issue, residents are demanding a double decker bus as the current population of buses becomes extremely crowded during peak hours and causes inconvenience. 

A meeting was held at the head office of Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML)  on Monday and PMPML chairman and managing director (CMD) Om Prakash Bakoria has asked senior officials to check the viability of starting double-decker bus services in the city.The senior officials will contact the officials of BEST, Mumbai in this regard. 

” I have instructed to the traffic department regarding this. A meeting was also conducted. We will study the various routes for starting the service.  If the report is positive, we will certainly think about starting double-decker bus services in Pune as early as possible,”  said Om Prakash Bakoria, PMPML chairman and managing director (CMD).
