Maharashtra State Electricity Employees and Officers and Engineers Sangharsh Samiti have vowed to continue the protest across Maharashtra.

Pune: Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) employees, officers and engineers on Thursday staged a protest outside MSEDCL office at Rasta Peth opposing the entry of Adani Transmission Ltd in the power distribution sector.

The protest was against the policy of privatization and granting a parallel license to the Adani company for power distribution.   Adani company has sought license for the distribution of electricity in the entire area of Thane and Vashi mandals in Bhandup circle.

Around 30 organisations participated in the protest. Maharashtra State Electricity Employees and Officers and Engineers Sangharsh Samiti have vowed to continue the protest across Maharashtra.

“At least 85,000 employees work in MSEDCL across the state but if it is privatized, electricity rates may increase. This will affect the common people. The Adani company has sought permission for parallel power distribution in the Bhandup zone in Mumbai but we are against this. The state government should not do any kind of privatization in the power sector,” said Suresh Jadhav, MSEDCL engineer.
