Pune: Out of the 72,000 registered autorickshaws with Regional Transport Office, Pune, 52,487 auto drivers have calibrated their metres, while 19, 513 drivers are yet to have a new fare meter even as the extended deadline ended on March 31, 2022.

“We are not going to extend the deadline. Now, Rs 50 per day fine will be imposed on auto drivers who ply without metre calibration,” said Ajit Shinde, regional transport officer, Pune.

There are 27 such meter outlets in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad where autorickshaws meters can be upgraded.

As per the new rates, which were applicable from November 22, the fare for the first 1.5 km would be Rs 21 and Rs 13 for every kilometer thereafter. The new rates are applicable in Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad and Baramati jurisdictions.

“The number of autorickshaw drivers coming for meter calibration has gone down. We hardly receive a single driver in a day who visits us for the meter upgradation work,” said Shivaji Lohokare, who runs a meter calibration service at Dandekar Pul.
