Pune: The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has been cracking down on illegal structures in the city, and in the last nine months, they’ve identified more than 1000 structures out of which several structures have been already razed. Unfortunately, the monsoon has stopped, putting a halt on the drive, but the department is soon stepping up their efforts in the next few months.

Monica Singh, Head, PMRDA’s Anti Encroachment Cell, said, “Drones have been used to detect illegal structures. It is especially useful to detect structures that have been illegally constructed on open government land. We have removed illegal structures. These illegal structures include commercial buildings and more.”

As per further information from Monica Singh, police cases have been filed against 10 to 20 illegal structures. Areas like Wagholi, Mulshi, Haveli, Marunji, Hinjewadi, Maval, and many more have been covered where illegal structures have been removed.

As per further information, since 2015, the PMRDA has detected 9,349 unlawful constructions, for which 1,920 notifications have been issued and 324 structures have been removed.

This region covers an area of 6,000 square kilometers and regular inspections are being carried out to check illegal constructions. It will be simpler to control illegal constructions if every department involved in granting permits has a system in place to monitor illegal constructions.
