Over 10,445 kg of Waste Collected in Clean-Up Drive; Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation Appeals For Citizen Participation
Pimpri, January 11, 2025: The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) conducted a massive cleanliness drive at various river ghats across the city, collecting a total of 10,445 kg of waste. Additional Commissioner Vijaykumar Khorate announced that the corporation will organize similar drives every Saturday throughout January to ensure a clean and beautiful city.
Under the “Clean Maharashtra and Bharat Abhiyan (Urban)” initiative, the cleanliness drive focused on water bodies such as rivers, lakes, and ghats, guided by Municipal Commissioner Shekhar Singh. The campaign covered areas under PCMC’s regional offices, including Mula, Pavana, and Indrayani river ghats, resulting in the removal of thousands of kilograms of waste.
Key Achievements of the Drive:
- B Regional Office: Mamurdi Pavana River Ghat, Chinchwadgaon Thergaon Bridge, Kiwale Mahadev Temple, and other locations collected 3,985 kg of waste.
- C Regional Office: 780 kg of waste was removed from Chikhali immersion ghat.
- D Regional Office: 1,500 kg of waste collected at Mhatoba Temple in Wakad.
- E Regional Office: 1,600 kg of waste cleaned near Chaholi Ghat on the Indrayani River.
- G Regional Office: 890 kg of waste collected at Subhash Ghat, Thergaon crematorium, and other areas.
- H Regional Office: 1,690 kg of waste removed from Fugewadi, Kasarwadi, Pavana Ghat, and Harris Bridge.
Health Executive Officer Ganesh Deshpande reported the total collection of 10,445 kg of waste.
To support waste management efforts, Deputy Commissioner Sachin Pawar urged citizens to take an active role in keeping the city clean and making it waste-free.
The PCMC also appealed to former ward representatives, cleanliness ambassadors, citizens, students, NGOs, women’s self-help groups, and volunteers to join the upcoming drives on January 18 and 25. Additional Commissioner Khorate emphasized collective efforts to achieve a cleaner city.
This initiative reflects the municipal corporation’s commitment to environmental sustainability and public participation in maintaining cleanliness.
