Pune, October 22, 2024: In a major collaboration, around 240 small and medium-sized hospitals in Pune have come together under the Hospital Board of India (HBI) Pune chapter, along with over 2,000 doctors from the Indian Medical Association (IMA) Pune Chapter, to launch a Common Procurement Platform (CPP). This initiative aims to standardize procurement processes, improve service quality, officials announced.

The CPP will streamline the purchase of medicines, medical equipment, and consumables for hospitals, creating uniformity in quality and availability. By allowing hospitals to make bulk purchases, the platform will also lower the costs of high-quality supplies, benefiting both hospitals and patients.

This initiative follows the recent accreditation of 180 hospitals in Pune by the National Accreditation Board for Hospitals and Healthcare Providers (NABH). Originally, individual hospitals faced hefty costs for NABH compliance, but after banding together, the hospitals were able to reduce that cost.

Dr. Sanjay Patil, Chairman of HBI Pune, said, ā€œThis platform will bring consistency in the availability of quality consumables, medicines, and equipment. Often, small hospitals face difficulty in accessing the latest technologies due to low demand. This platform will solve that problem. We plan to soft launch the website and introduce a few products initially and then go in full capacity after seeing the response and work effectiveness. We are positive that this initiative will greatly help the doctors, hospitals as well as the manufacturers.ā€

CPP will allow smaller hospitals to enjoy the same benefits as larger corporate hospitals, such as procuring expensive equipment at discounted rates.

The platform, still under development, is expected to be operational by December.
