Pune: Exceeding the speed limit on the old Pune-Mumbai highway, specifically in the direction of Pimpri Chinchwad city (Chinchwad), may result in a penalty. The traffic police of Pimpri Chinchwad and the civic administration have imposed a speed limit of 40 km per hour on this highway and installed speed guns to monitor and control vehicle speed.

The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has authority over the 12-km stretch between Dapodi and Nigdi (Bhakti Shakti Chowk) on the Old Pune-Mumbai Highway. This route has only two signals and quickly leads passengers out of the city within a few minutes from Dapodi.

Additionally, there are underpasses located at Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Chowk, Ahilyadevi Holkar Chowk, Mahavir Chowk, Chinchwad Station Chowk, Khandoba Mall Chowk, and service roads on both sides of the highway. The Mumbai-Bangalore (Dehu Road-Katraj Outlier) Highway and Pune-Nashik Highway are the two primary roads connecting the city.

For devotees visiting Dehu Alandi, there are significant roads such as Dighi Alandi Road, Dehu Alandi Road, and Nigdi Bhosari Telco Road, which are crucial for the industrial city. Other important routes include Bhakti Shakti Chowk to Jai Ganesh Empire (Chinchwad) Chowk Spine Road, Nashik Phata to IT Nagari via Hinjewadi Road, Aundh Rave, Kiwale BRT Marg, and Kalewadi Phata to Chikhali BRT Road. This particular route experiences the highest traffic in the city.

In response to the increasing number of accidents on highways, the Pimpri Chinchwad traffic police have been closely monitoring the most congested roads in the city and have imposed appropriate speed limits on these major routes to reduce accidents caused by speeding vehicles.

Speed guns have been installed on the old Pune-Mumbai highway, enforcing a mandatory speed limit of 40 km per hour. Vehicles exceeding this speed limit will be levied fines and the owner will receive the challan on their phones. This process is automated and does not involve human interference.

Additionally, it is important to note that the Mumbai-Pune highway, specifically the stretch between Nigdi and Dapodi, has a fixed speed limit of 40 km per hour. The spine road has a slightly higher speed limit of 50 km per hour. Furthermore, speed limits will also be enforced on other roads such as the Pune-Nashik highway, Wakad-Hinjewadi Road, and Nigdi-Bhosari Telco Road.

However, in order to ensure the safety of the citizens, the speed limit has been enforced, which seems to hinder the intended purpose of faster travel. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Pimpri-Chinchwad), Bapu Bangar, has acknowledged this concern and mentioned that two-speed guns have been installed on the highway to promote safe travel. This initiative has garnered attention from other areas as well, highlighting the importance of prioritizing the well-being of the citizens.
