Manu Bhaker, thanks to her medal at Paris 2024, becomes the first woman shooter from India to win an Olympics medal, joining four other male shooters in an elusive club.

In a remarkable achievement, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has praised Manu Bhaker for her historic performance at the Paris Olympics 2024. Bhaker clinched the bronze medal in the 10m air pistol event, marking India’s first shooting medal in 12 years.

Before the Paris 2024 Olympics, Indian shooters had secured four medals, but none were won by female competitors. The last shooting medals for India were earned at the London 2012 Olympics, where Gagan Narang won bronze in the men’s 10m air rifle and Vijay Kumar secured silver in the men’s 25m rapid fire pistol.

On social media, Modi lauded Bhaker’s achievement, writing, “A historic medal! Congratulations to @realmanubhaker for winning India’s FIRST medal at the #ParisOlympics2024!
