Pune: In a major anti-encroachment operation, the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) on Wednesday demolished 33 unauthorized structures along the busy Wakad-Bhosari BRTS corridor, between Jagtap Dairy Chowk and Wakad Chowk, clearing nearly 6,945 square metres of land.

The action was carried out under the jurisdiction of the PCMC ‘D’ Ward office as part of an ongoing crackdown on illegal constructions and road encroachments. The demolished structures mainly included tin sheds, temporary commercial setups, and unauthorized extensions built on both sides of the road.

According to civic officials, a total of 104 properties in the Wakad area have been identified for action. However, structures with active court stay orders were excluded from the demolition process.

The large-scale drive began around 10 am with heavy deployment of manpower and machinery. Around 150 civic staff, 104 police personnel, and 60 Maharashtra Security Force jawans were present to maintain order during the operation. PCMC also deployed 16 JCB machines for the demolition work, while a fire brigade and two ambulances were kept on standby as precautionary measures.

The drive was conducted on the instructions of PCMC Commissioner Dr. Vijay Suryawanshi and under the supervision of Additional Commissioner Trupti Sandbhor. Zonal Officer Ashwini Gaikwad led the on-ground operation.

PCMC officials said the action is part of a larger citywide plan to remove illegal structures, improve traffic movement, and ensure planned urban development. The civic body has also warned that strict action will continue against unauthorized constructions across Pimpri-Chinchwad.
