Pimpri, November 9, 2024:- Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) organized a “Walkathon for Voting” event on Friday, November 8, at the Indira Gandhi Garden (Durgadevi Tekdi) in Nigdi. The event was held as part of a voter awareness initiative in coordination with the state-level SVEEP (Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation) program. Actress Shreya Bugde attended the event, interacting with citizens and encouraging voter participation.

At the event, Bugde emphasizing the importance of voting, said, “Just as exercise, yoga, and physical activity are vital for our health, voting is essential for the health of our democracy. Voting is a fundamental right provided by the Constitution, giving citizens the opportunity to shape the future of their family, state, and nation every five years. I urge everyone to cast their vote on November 20 and fulfill their national duty.”

PCMC officials, including Additional Commissioner Vijaykumar Khorate and Deputy Commissioner Anna Bodade, among others joined the walkathon alongside senior citizens, women, youth, former soldiers, and new voters. Throughout the event, citizens engaged in discussions on voting, with many expressing their commitment to participate in the upcoming election.

Participants included groups exercising at the open gym and practicing yoga, who pledged to encourage others in their communities to vote. Former soldiers attending the event expressed strong support for voting, linking it to their commitment to serve the country.

In addition to the walkathon, PCMC organized cultural programs to promote voter awareness. Performances included patriotic songs by children, dance performances, and a street play on the importance of voting. Singer Ganesh Londhe also performed, urging citizens to exercise their voting rights. At the event’s close, attendees took an oath to vote in the upcoming election.

Additional Commissioner Vijaykumar Khorate noted that PCMC’s SVEEP initiative aims to increase voter turnout across Pimpri, Bhosari, and Chinchwad constituencies. The campaign will include active participation from women’s self-help groups, senior citizen organizations, and PCMC’s social development department to reach voters at the grassroots level.
