The Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) on Friday presented its budget for the financial year 2026–27, amounting to ₹5,660.73 crore, before the Standing Committee. The budget was formally tabled by Municipal Commissioner Shravan Hardikar before Standing Committee Chairman Abhishek Barne.

Including Central and State government-sponsored schemes, the total budget outlay stands at ₹9,322.17 crore, the Commissioner said while addressing the committee.

A large number of elected representatives, senior officials, department heads and civic officers were present during the presentation, reflecting the significance of the annual financial exercise for the city’s future development roadmap.

Citizen Participation in Budgeting

Commissioner Hardikar highlighted that public participation played a key role in shaping the budget. Under the citizen participation initiative, PCMC received nearly 4,996 public suggestions, which is double the number received last year. Out of these, 297 suggestions have been incorporated into the 2026–27 budget.

He further stated that for the financial year 2025–26, PCMC expects revenue of ₹6,256.39 crore (including balance). For 2026–27, the expected income is ₹5,660.73 crore, with projected expenditure of ₹5,655.73 crore, leaving a closing balance of ₹5 crore by March 2027.

Sector-Wise Area Development Allocation

Funds have been earmarked for zonal-level development works across the city:

  • A Ward – ₹6.29 crore
  • B Ward – ₹11.49 crore
  • C Ward – ₹10.25 crore
  • D Ward – ₹11.44 crore
  • E Ward – ₹3.70 crore
  • F Ward – ₹9.30 crore
  • G Ward – ₹5.28 crore
  • H Ward – ₹7.92 crore

Key Highlights of the Budget

  • ₹1,186 crore for overall development works
  • ₹436.94 crore under the Special Civil Works Scheme
  • ₹50 crore for Mayor’s Fund
  • ₹1,953 crore for urban poor (BSUP scheme)
  • ₹99 crore under Gender Budget for women-centric schemes
  • ₹68.30 crore for Divyang (Persons with Disabilities) welfare schemes
  • ₹155.73 crore for water supply capital works
  • ₹400 crore for PMPML
  • ₹100 crore for land acquisition
  • ₹10 crore for encroachment removal system
  • ₹50 crore for Smart City projects
  • ₹54.45 crore for AMRUT 2.0 scheme

  • Fire Academy building
  • Mamurdi–Sangavade / Hinjawadi bridge project
  • Drainage Master Plan
  • PCMC City Centre
  • Annasaheb Magar Stadium
  • Green Setu and Telco Road NMT project
  • Water supply improvement projects (Bhama Askhed Jackwell – AMRUT 2.0)
  • Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana projects (Charholi, Dudulgaon, Borhadewadi, Pimpri, Akurdi)
  • International-standard badminton court at Wakad
  • Biodiversity Park at Talawade
  • Mula River Rejuvenation Project
  • Indrayani River Rejuvenation Project
  • Moshi Garbage Depot and Biogas Processing Project
  • Wastewater recycling and reuse projects
  • Integrated solid waste management projects
  • Social initiatives like Sakhi Aangan

Department-Wise Capital Expenditure

For FY 2026–27, PCMC has proposed major capital expenditure allocations:

  • Civil Engineering Department – ₹727.92 crore
  • Land Acquisition – ₹100 crore
  • Electrical Department – ₹32.78 crore
  • Water Supply Department – ₹155.73 crore
  • Drainage Department – ₹18.26 crore
  • Environment Department – ₹24.35 crore
  • ‘P’ Budget Head (Various works) – ₹34.10 crore

Commissioner Hardikar said the ₹5,660 crore PCMC budget is not merely a financial document but a comprehensive blueprint for the city’s balanced, inclusive and sustainable development. He added that the strong focus on infrastructure, social justice, environmental sustainability, public transport, housing, women empowerment, welfare of the urban poor, and citizen participation reflects the civic body’s commitment to building Pimpri-Chinchwad into a modern, resilient and people-centric urban city.
