Pimpri-Chinchwad: Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) tax collection department will be distributing property tax bills through women’s self-help groups (Bachat gats). Last year, the bills were distributed through the post, but many property holders did not receive them, leading to complaints. To address this issue, the municipal corporation has decided to distribute the bills from house to house through 30 women’s self-help groups in the city.

The women’s self-help groups will be given an allowance of ₹15 per bill by the Municipal Corporation for their efforts and the property survey will be conducted once again through this process.

Approximately 6 lakh properties, including 5,97,487 residential, non-residential, industrial, and vacant land properties in the city, are registered with the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation.

The distribution of bills will commence in April, and it will be carried out under the control and coordination of the Mahila Arthik Vikas Mandal. The proposal to spend about ₹ 90 lakhs for this initiative has been approved by Commissioner Shekhar Singh after being proposed by the Standing Committee. This move has not gone down well among the political parties and may soon take objection over the decision.

Nilesh Deshmukh, official from property tax department, PCMC said, “Women bachat gats have been assigned for distribution of property tax bills in limits of Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation. Over 30 groups of bachat gats have been selected for this and they will be paid ₹ 15 per bill.”

To streamline the process, a special mobile app has been created by the Municipal Corporation for the women in the self-help groups to re-register property details while distributing the property tax bills. The app will allow them to take a photo after the bill is paid by the respective house, flat, or commercial property. Any corrections needed in the address or phone number on the bill can also be made through the app. In case a house is closed, the bill for that house will be sent directly to the concerned person through the phone app.
