Pune : The Ministry of Defense issued a notification to abolish the Vehicle Entry Tax in certain cantonments. Pune, Ahmednagar and Aurangabad are amongst them. The notification came a year after the scrapping of the decade – old VET in January 2022.

These three cantonment boards continued to charge commercial vehicles under the name of fees and not tax. With the latest notification issued by the ministry, the PCB will lose funds of over Rs 13 crores. PCB is currently facing financial difficulties.

It is said that with scrapping of vehicle entry tax, the PCB may lose its revenue generation mode and may further weaken. Officials at the PCB have expressed their shock over the decision issued by the ministry.

Presently there are 13 tax collection centers in the Pune Cantonment Board Limits.Â
