PCMC to keep its 6 cremation furnaces shut to carry out repair and maintenance work

Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation shall keep 6 out of ten cremation furnaces at gas and electric crematoriums in the city shut till June 20, 2021 in a phase wise manner. Since the last two months, the death toll has increased in the city. Also, several deaths have occurred due to Covid19 in the last few months, which has put a burden on the furnaces due to which they have turned completely black and are causing technical glitches.  
The cremation furnaces have become non-functional. To avoid inconvenience to the citizens, one furnace shall remain close to carry out repair and maintenance work. 

One cremation furnace shall be kept closed for ten days from April 21 to June 20,2021. To carry out any repair work, each furnace takes at least three days of time to cool off completely. Also, the cremation furnace takes two days time to get heated. PCMC informed that each cremation furnace shall be kept shut for a ten days period.

The work of following electrical and gas crematoriums shall remain shut during the following period :

  1. Chinchwad Link road – Furnace 2 – April 21 – April 30
  2. Chinchwad Link road – Furnace 1 – May 1 – May 10
  3. Nigdi Electric Crematorium – Furnace 1 – May 11 – May 20
  4. Nigdi Electric Crematorium – Furnace 2 – May 21 – May 30
  5. Bhosari Electric Crematorium – June 1 – June 10
  6. Sangvi Gas crematorium – June 11 – June 20
