Pimpri: In a novel attempt to address the issue of waste dumping in open spaces, the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) Health Department has turned discarded materials into artistic installations. In the Chinchwad area, at Kawale Vakhra, Mohannagar, municipal sanitation workers have creatively repurposed broken brooms, bamboo sticks, and other discarded items to craft beautiful art pieces. This initiative, under the concept of ‘Art from Waste,’ has transformed the site, making it garbage-free and even an attractive spot for citizens to capture selfies.

By combining creativity with innovation, PCMC’s health department has successfully converted an open dumping ground into a visually appealing and clean public space. Previously, despite repeated awareness campaigns urging people not to dump waste, the area continued to be misused, leading to unhygienic conditions. To address this issue permanently, the sanitation staff took matters into their own hands, cleaning the space and utilizing discarded materials to create aesthetically pleasing installations.

This transformation has not only eliminated waste from the area but also encouraged local residents to take ownership of keeping the space clean. The initiative has been widely appreciated by citizens, and the site now serves as an example of how waste can be turned into something meaningful and beautiful.

This project was undertaken under the supervision of PCMC’s A zonal Office, with special efforts from zonal officer Sheetal Wakade, Assistant Health officer Raju Sable, Chief Health Inspector Dattatraya Gange, and Health Inspector of Ward No. 14, Vikas Shinde, along with several municipal officers and sanitation workers.
