An eight-year-old boy died from suspected dengue on Monday, the first case of the vector-borne illness to be reported in Pimpri-Chinchwad this year as the local authorities stated that the National Institute of Virology (NIV) will investigate the incident.

The boy lived in Pimpri Chinchwad Society and, according to doctors, dengue fever was the cause of his death.

Officials from the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) believe that dengue may be involved in this case. Nonetheless, doctors have verified the dengue case, and this is the first recorded fatality of the year in the region.

According to a senior doctor, the boy had dengue fever when he was admitted on Saturday and passed away early on Monday. He suffered from multiple organ failure and was not resuscitated. The local authorities have been informed about the case.

According to a PCMC health officer, cases are only deemed confirmed when verified by the National Institute of Virology (NIV) or a sentinel laboratory as having dengue infection. For additional investigations, they will request that the medical report be sent to us by the hospital and the local organization. Within the PCMC boundaries, very few dengue cases were reported in December. Nonetheless, directives have been given to carry out surveillance in the region where the death has been reported.

A total of 11,102 suspected and 253 confirmed cases of dengue have been reported by PCMC this year. However, this year has seen no reported dengue fatalities. Furthermore, PCMC has not received a single confirmed case of dengue in December.
