Pune techie loses Rs 17 lakh in Like & Earn scam

Between December 1 and 6, a 34-year-old software engineer working for a private company in Aundh lost Rs 17.6 lakh to cybercriminals after giving in to the temptation of earning money by liking videos and other online tasks.

On December 1, the victim contacted the con artists after coming across an advertisement on social media regarding a part-time job. This marked the start of the fraud.

On December 7, the victim made a complaint to the cybercrime cell. Following the initial inquiries, a case was opened on Saturday with the Wakad police.

An officer from the Wakad police said investigations so far revealed the money was transferred to the different bank accounts located in different cities including Kochi in Kerala, Itarsi in Madhya Pradesh, Malda in West Bengal, Jaipur in Rajasthan and in New Delhi.
