Pune, March 13, 2026: Pradip Naik, a Ravet based citizen has submitted a representation to the Chief Secretary of the Government of Maharashtra, urging the State to establish uniform and religion-neutral regulatory guidelines governing access, conduct, and prevention of disruptive agitations within religious institutions.

In his letter, Naik emphasized that while religious institutions operate under Articles 25 and 26 of the Indian Constitution, they remain subject to public order, morality, and health. Citing recent disputes, including incidents at Shani Shingnapur Temple, he highlighted concerns over public tension and law-and-order issues arising from contested access and worship practices.

Naik requested that the government:

  • Frame Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) applicable across all religions.
  • Issue guidelines to prevent unlawful or disruptive agitations inside religious premises.
  • Ensure uniform enforcement without selective interference.
  • Consult stakeholders before formulating policies.

He further warned that failure to take action within a reasonable period could compel him to approach the Bombay High Court for relief.

This move comes amid ongoing debates over access and conduct in religious institutions, underscoring the need for clarity and consistency in regulatory measures.
