Pune: MCOCA Invoked In Third Case Against Tipu Pathan Gang For Extortion And Threats
Pune, March 13, 2026: The Pune city police have invoked the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) in a third case against gangster Rizwan alias Tipu Pathan and his associates, highlighting the gang’s continuing involvement in extortion and violent criminal activities.
According to police, an FIR was filed on February 16 at the Kalepadal police station against Pathan, 34, and seven of his aides for allegedly threatening a hotel owner at gunpoint. The complaint stated that on January 12, 2025, the gang summoned the 54-year-old hotelier to his office at Khwaja Manzil, Sayyad Nagar, Hadapsar, and forced him to purchase mutton from shops in which they had a stake. The gang reportedly demanded Rs 5,000 per month as extortion and threatened to kill the complainant if he did not comply. The hotelier approached authorities a year later due to fear for his life.
Police had initially registered charges against Pathan and his aides Tanvir Shaikh, Irfan Shaikh, Azim alias Antya Hussain Shaikh, Saddam Pathan, and four others under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Arms Act. Following further investigation, MCOCA provisions were applied to strengthen the case, as announced in a statement by Senior Inspector Mansingh Patil.
Tipu Pathan’s criminal record is extensive, with around 30 serious offences, including murder, attempt to murder, extortion, and land grabbing. Authorities intensified action against him last year after a viral video showed him throwing money during a local qawwali event. In April 2025, he and his brother Ejaz Pathan were arrested in a land-grab and extortion case. In June, police fatally shot Shahrukh alias Atti Rahim, a gang member wanted in the same case, during an encounter in Solapur.
In another recent case lodged on October 12, 2025, a 31-year-old woman from Mumbai accused Pathan and his gang of illegally occupying her 1,290 sq. ft land in Sayyad Nagar, constructing a tin shed, renting it out without permission, and demanding Rs 25 lakh under threat of violence when she asked them to vacate.
The latest invocation of MCOCA underlines police efforts to curb organized crime and dismantle the operations of Tipu Pathan’s gang in Pune.
