Pimpri-Chinchwad Named Among Most Liveable Cities In Smart City Survey
Pimpri-Chinchwad, December 11, 2025: Once known primarily as an industrial hub, Pimpri-Chinchwad is now emerging as one of the most preferred cities to live in, according to the latest Smart City survey. The city, which has rapidly evolved from a cluster of villages to a metropolitan region, has witnessed a significant rise in residential development over recent years.
The Central Government had recognised Pimpri-Chinchwad’s strong performance in urban development back in 2020, awarding it the top rank for liveability. Over the past five years, the city has continued to uphold this reputation, with residential demand rising by nearly 60 percent. Key growth areas include Mamurdi, Kiwale, Ravet, Wakad, Tathawade, Punawale, Moshi, Borhade Wadi, and Charholi—localities that have seen substantial expansion in housing and infrastructure.
The Smart City survey highlights that residents increasingly view the city as a favourable place to settle due to its rapid transformation and improved civic amenities. Several landmarks—such as the Bhakti-Shakti monument, Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj Garden, Durgadevi Hill, Chapekar Wada, Auto Cluster Science Park, and the JRD Tata Flyover—have contributed to the city’s cultural and recreational appeal.
Once identified mainly for its industrial strength, Pimpri-Chinchwad is now evolving into a city of opportunities, gaining recognition as a Smart City, Clean City, Green City, and Digital City.
To support its fast-growing population and rising urban demands, the municipal corporation has prioritised key civic utilities. Upgraded transport networks—including metro lines, major road improvements, and expanded BRT corridors—have helped improve connectivity. The city is now supplied with water not only from the Pavana Dam but also from the Bhama Askhed and Andra Dams. Officials have also proposed future water reserves from Mulshi Dam to ensure long-term sustainability.
In the last three years alone, over 5,000 construction projects have been approved, driving rapid development across the region. To keep up with this growth, the administration is focusing on water supply planning, sewage treatment, and efficient waste management. Authorities also note that the city’s population has nearly doubled over the past decade, prompting continuous investment in technology-based solutions to enhance essential services and overall quality of life.
Pimpri-Chinchwad’s upward trajectory reflects its transformation into one of Maharashtra’s most dynamic and liveable urban centres.
