In a move to increase the revenue, the Sky Signs and Licensing Department of Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has decided to allow the installation of new billboards in the upcoming financial year 2023-24. The decision comes after the department’s revenue has been on the rise for the past five years. This year, the corporation has approved the installation of new  billboards as there were no permissions issued last year.

The department’s focus for the present financial year will be on raising revenue through the installation of  billboards  boards. To achieve this target, the municipal corporation plans to offer BRTS roads, metro pillars, public toilets, kiosks at road dividers, and hoardings at 50 municipal sites to increase its income.

PCMC carried out a survey and found that there were many unauthorised  billboards, Further, dues were collected from such sites. There are disputes over 433 sites in PCMC which could have generated another revenue of Rs 9 crores.  The municipal corporation also plans to prioritise the recovery of dues, to increase its revenue.

With the corporation’s approval to allow new  billboards and the department’s plans to recover old arrears and tender new sites, the Sky Signs and Licensing Department of PCMC is optimistic about increasing its revenue in the upcoming fiscal year.

The Deputy Commissioner of Sky Signs and Licensing Department, Sachin Dhole, said ” For the first time, the department has managed to recover Rs 17 crore 24 lakhs. After forbidding it the previous year, the corporation has this year permitted the erection of new  billboards  . Currently, the city has 2,104 billboards with permits.”
