Pimpri-Chinchwad: In the digital age, CCTV surveillance has become an integral part of security systems. However, if not properly secured, these systems can become vulnerable to cyberattacks. To prevent such threats, the Pimpri-Chinchwad Crime Branch has issued guidelines to enhance CCTV security.

Strengthening Network Security

Officials recommend changing default passwords immediately after installation and using strong, unique passwords that combine uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and special characters. Enabling Two-Factor Authentication (2FA), if supported, adds an extra layer of security.

To minimize risks, unnecessary features like remote access should be disabled. If remote access is required, using a Virtual Private Network (VPN) is advised. Regular system log monitoring can help detect unauthorized access, while NVR/DVR devices should be placed in secure locations to prevent tampering. Additionally, maintaining regular backups of CCTV footage on cloud storage or external hard drives is essential.

Keeping Software and Firmware Updated

To safeguard against cyber threats, authorities stress the importance of regular firmware updates provided by manufacturers. CCTV monitoring software, including mobile apps and desktop applications, should also be updated to their latest versions.

Securing Wi-Fi Networks

Using WPA3 encryption can enhance Wi-Fi security, while default router login credentials should be changed immediately. Enabling a network firewall ensures that only authorized data reaches the CCTV system.

Authorities urge residents and businesses to follow these measures to protect their CCTV networks from hacking and other cyber threats.

“Stay Alert, Stay Safe” – Pimpri-Chinchwad Crime Branch

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime), Sandeep Doiphode, emphasized the importance of proactive security measures, stating that these steps can significantly reduce the risk of cyberattacks on CCTV systems.

For enhanced security, the public is encouraged to implement these recommendations and remain vigilant against digital threats.
