Pimpri-Chinchwad, January 9, 2025 – The Cyber Police Station under the Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Commissionerate has issued a public advisory to alert citizens about potential online frauds during the Kumbh Mela. Cybercriminals are exploiting digital platforms to deceive devotees by creating fake websites, links, and online mediums, as reported by the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Indian Cybercrime Coordination Center (I4C).
Common Fraudulent Practices Identified:
1. Fake Websites: Fraudsters use counterfeit websites to solicit donations under the guise of religious activities associated with the Kumbh Mela.
2. Fraudulent Online Booking: Scammers deceive people by offering fake accommodations, darshan passes, and other facilities through illegitimate websites.
Guidelines for Citizens to Stay Safe:
– Avoid Fake Links: Do not click on suspicious links, websites, or messages related to the Kumbh Mela.
– Verify Authenticity: Access accurate information about the Kumbh Mela only through the official website [https://kumbh.gov.in](https://kumbh.gov.in).
– Protect Sensitive Information: Do not share bank account details, passwords, or any other personal information with unverified sources.
