Pimpri Chinchwad Smart City to Launch EZPedal Ride-Share Project, Pilot Project To Be Launched In Pimple Saudagar, Wakad
Pimpri, June 12, 2024 – The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) and Pimpri Chinchwad Smart City Private Limited have announced the launch of the ambitious EZPedal public ride-share project. This initiative will introduce citizens of Pimpri Chinchwad to a pedal-assisted (electric) and smart bicycle ride-share system based on advanced European technology.
The first phase of this project will include the areas of Pimple Saudagar, Wakad, and Vishal Nagar. The project’s objective is to promote a cycling culture, which will significantly improve public health and provide efficient connectivity to the city’s Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) and Metro systems. Smart docks powered by solar panels will be strategically installed in public places, community spaces, residential areas, and commercial zones to create a robust network connecting existing pedestrian infrastructure.
Engineers Nikhil Dilip Deshmukh and Pratyush Srinivasan founded the EZPedal startup, inspired by European standards and global models, to develop this innovative and efficient ride-share system. The startup operates from the Pimpri Chinchwad Startup Incubation Center, dedicated to developing new projects in the city.
The project’s inception and implementation are supported by architect and urban planner Ashik Jain, Bicycle Mayor of Pimpri Chinchwad, along with municipal officers, including Bapusaheb Gaikwad, executive engineer of the Transport and Traffic Department, deputy engineers Sunil Pawar and Chitra Panwar, CS of Pimpri Chinchwad Smart City Limited.
Municipal Commissioner Shekhar Singh expressed optimism about the project’s successful implementation in its first phase and extended support for the initiative. He stated, “This project will provide end-to-end connectivity within the city, increase the use of cycle tracks, and improve public health. It also demonstrates the corporation’s commitment to citizen-centric operations. I urge everyone to support and participate in this initiative.”
The project promises numerous benefits, including improved health from regular cycling, reduced carbon emissions, and decreased traffic congestion, positively impacting the environment and promoting a clean and green city. The ride-share system offers an affordable and convenient transportation option for short distances, ensuring easy access to BRT and Metro stations, thereby enhancing the overall efficiency of public transportation. Utilizing advanced European technology, this service will be beneficial for citizens and encourage participation in the initiative, increasing the use of cycling and pedestrian infrastructure and creating a motor-free environment in the city.
The implementation of the EZPedal public ride-share project has begun, with the service expected to be operational by August 2024. Citizens are encouraged to participate actively in this initiative, which aims to boost the city’s development and provide an efficient transportation service.
