Pune: Action has been taken against 4,15,000 people collecting a fine of over Rs  37 crores from January 1 to August 31 informed Vitthal Kubade, Assistant Commissioner Police, Pimpri Chinchwad while talking with Pune Pulse.

In recent years, significant intersections within Pimpri Chinchwad City have been equipped with traffic signals, resulting in an increase in the number of measures taken against drivers who violate traffic regulations.

The Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Commissionerate was established on August 15, 2018, and has since been operational for five years. Within the commissioner’s jurisdiction, the traffic department has augmented its posts and manpower while also installing traffic signals at crucial intersections. This has led to a discernible uptick in the pace of enforcement.

Various routes throughout the city have been equipped with Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) stops on the right-hand side of the road. Special provisions have been made to enable passengers disembarking at these stops to cross the BRT route safely. Despite the provisions made, citizens are still seen violating the rules.

Kubade said, ”Action has been taken against 4,15,000 people collecting a fine of over Rs 37 crores from January 1 to August 31. We are urging people not to violate rules by driving triple-seat, using mobile phones, driving on the wrong side, etc. We have sent a proposal of cancellation; 670 licenses out of 194 are already suspended.”
