PCMC aims at bringing 35% properties into property tax ambit

Pimpri: Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has broken its own record by collecting nearly 700 crores in property taxes this financial year, a significant step towards achieving its goal of collecting 1000 crores by the end of March. 

The tax collection department has provided various schemes and discounts to citizens, resulting in a positive response from property holders, with 3.88 lakh property owners paying their taxes.

In line with its Zero Tolerance Policy, the department has issued 13,000 warrants and taken strict action against property defaulters, resulting in the seizure of over 1200 properties. The Municipal Corporation has clarified that strict recovery action will continue in April, with the auction process of the confiscated properties set to be implemented from next month.

The department has implemented various measures to support honest taxpayers, including special discounts and penalties for defaulters. The state government has recently waived the penalty for illegal construction, amounting to ₹147 crores, in the current financial year. As a result, 7959 property owners have paid ₹54.73 crores as basic tax, while 1791 property holders have received illegal penalty waiver certificates.

PCMC’s Assistant Commissioner, Nilesh Deshmukh, expressed his satisfaction with the record-breaking collection of property taxes, stating, “For the first time, Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation has collected over ₹700 crores of property tax. As we were expecting to collect property tax till ₹1000 crores but we have already received ₹700 crores from 3.88 lakh property holders in the city and expecting around ₹150 crores by March end.”
