Pimpri-Chinchwad: The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has come under scrutiny for approving a budget of ₹90 lakh to distribute property bills to property owners in the city through women self help groups, at a rate of ₹15 per bill. This decision has sparked criticism from citizens and housing society representatives, as ₹48 lakh was spent on a similar endeavor last year, where thè property tax bills were distributed via post, which failed to achieve its objective of delivering property bills to the intended recipients.

Citizens have raised concerns about the wastage of taxpayers’ money in outsourcing the task of property bill distribution to women self help groups, when PCMC has its own tax collection department with sufficient employees to handle the job. They argue that the ₹90 lakh budget could be better utilized by utilizing the existing resources of the municipal corporation, rather than outsourcing the task and risking potential inefficiencies and delays in bill delivery.

Sanjeevan Sangle, Chairman of Chikhali-Moshi Pimpri Chinchwad Cooperative Housing Societies’ Federation, expressed his disappointment with the decision. he said, “PCMC Administrator and Commissioner Shekhar Singh are squandering citizens’ money in an attempt to meet the target of one thousand crores of property tax. While the municipal corporation provides a discount of ₹60 lakh to societies under the Green Society initiative, spending ₹90 lakh on property bill distribution seems unnecessary and counterproductive.”
