Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has implemented an online process for pet licensing since August 2022. The move has received a positive response from citizens as the registration process has become more convenient. Till date, over 950 pets have been registered, out of which there are 898 dogs and 52 cats.

Dr. Arun Dagade, the veterinary officer of PCMC, informed, “Pet licensing allows pet owners to obtain the authority to keep their animals legally. The license is valid for one year from the date of issue and must be renewed annually. The license is subject to terms and conditions, and payment of fees decided by the Municipal Commissioner.”

Pet owners are also required to carry their license and produce it when demanded by the Municipal Commissioner or authorized officer. In case a licensed dog is bitten or scratched by a fox or any other animal suspected to have been bitten, the holder of the license must report the matter in writing to the veterinary department of the PCMC.

Furthermore, the PCMC has made anti-rabies vaccination of cats mandatory for pet licensing.

On the sterilization of dogs, Dr. Arun Dagade said that the drive for sterilization is carried out every day, with at least 15 dogs being sterilized daily in different parts of the municipal jurisdiction.
