Pune: Patients coming to seek treatment or conduct tests at New Thergaon government hospital for tests are facing a tough time as the hospital either does not have the equipment or the devices are lying defunct.

As a result, they are referred to other government hospitals which is causing unnecessary inconvenience and delay in seeking treatment. However, in some cases, patients are forced for tests to be conducted at private hospitals. Patients from the lower income group are suffering the most as the hospital in Thergaon is lacking necessary equipment which are not in working condition.

Display board notice mentioned that, NT Scan, Anomaly Scan and Sonography machines are not available hence related tests are not possible to conduct in this hospital.

Local resident Balu Shinde said, “Important tests required during pregnancy are not available at the hospital. Work in Thergaon hospital is going in the wrong direction. Poor people are suffering because of it. Machines like NT Scan machine, Anomaly scan machine should be available on immediate basis.’’

When Pune Pulse contacted by hospital administration they told that NT Scan and Anomaly Scan are not emergency services. Hospital is providing all emergency services.

Dr Abhay Dadewar, in-charge, New Thergaon Hospital said, “Those machines we have are with very low resolutions and radiologists can not conduct these tests with available machines. Hence, we are suggesting pregnant women to do a sonography test of the fifth month from other hospitals.’’ Other tests are being carried out at our hospital, Dadewar added.

Tests like NT Scan, Anomaly Scan required at least 45 minutes to 50 minutes for one patient, which will impact on our other emergency services. As the hospital is handling 700-800 weekly patients, informed Dadewar.
