Platform Upgrade at Khadki Station Begins, South-Bound Trains to Start Soon
Pune: Historic Name ‘Khadki’ Restored To Cantonment After 200 Years
Work has officially started to raise the height of Platform Number 3 at Khadki railway station. The project gained momentum after the Railway Board allocated ₹35 crore. The upgrade is expected to be completed within two months.
This development is part of the Pune Railway Division’s plan to reduce pressure on Pune Junction. Terminals are being developed at both Khadki and Hadapsar stations to handle more train traffic.
An official said that a new coaching terminal is coming up at Khadki. In the first phase, the platform height is being increased. Later, passenger trains will start from here, which will help commuters.
Currently, several trains experience delays of 20 to 25 minutes at Pune station due to the unavailability of platforms. Many trains are forced to wait at the home signal. Once trains start from Khadki, they will only need a 5–10 minute halt at Pune, freeing up space and reducing congestion.
The plan includes running trains to South India directly from Khadki station. This will be especially helpful for passengers travelling to cities like Chennai and Bengaluru.
The move is expected to significantly ease the load on Pune station and improve train punctuality. Railway officials are hopeful the new terminal will benefit thousands of passengers.
