In a significant development for Maharashtra’s aviation network, Prime Minister Narendra Modi remotely inaugurated the state-of-the-art integrated terminal building at Pune Airport in Lohgaon. Present at the event were Chief Minister Eknath Shinde in Kolhapur, Deputy Chief Ministers Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar, Cooperation Minister Dilip Valse Patil, and Higher and Technical Education Minister Chandrakantada Patil at Pune Airport.

The new terminal aims to enhance air travel convenience and comfort for the general public. The inauguration ceremony included the unveiling of a grand statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and the display of cultural elements such as Sri Vitthala’s mural, Warli art, and the traditional game Mallakhamba. This initiative aligns with promoting local culture, and the terminal will provide a platform for selling local products.

Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis highlighted the state government’s efforts to create a network of airports in Maharashtra by developing runways. He mentioned plans for a new airport at Purandar in Pune district to address the growing demand for aviation services. Mr. Fadnavis emphasized that this new airport would boost employment, create new supply chains, and contribute to a 2 percent increase in Pune’s GDP.

Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar added that Prime Minister Modi inaugurated 12 new passenger terminals at various airports, showcasing the government’s commitment to expanding aviation infrastructure. He disclosed plans for 14 airport projects costing Rs. 10,000 crore, including the construction of a new airport and cargo center at Purandar.

Dr. H. Srinivas provided details about the facilities in Pune Airport’s new integrated terminal building, highlighting its modern amenities and a capacity of 3,000 passengers during peak hours. The program also emphasized the visionary changes in the country’s transportation sector, including the completion of projects like Vande Bharat Railway and new airports.

In conclusion, the inauguration marks a significant milestone in Maharashtra’s aviation landscape, contributing to increased connectivity, economic growth, and improved passenger experiences.
