Ghorpadi Flyover Opens: Pune Residents Breathe Easy Amidst Traffic Woes

Pune – After nearly four decades of enduring traffic snarls, the longstanding issue of congestion in Ghorpadigaon is set to be resolved today. The Municipal Corporation is set to unveil a new flyover constructed over the Pune-Solapur railway line in Ghorpadi village, with the groundbreaking ceremony for another flyover over the Pune-Miraj line. The flyover spanning the Solapur railway line will stretch approximately 1 kilometer, accompanied by a service road, while the one over the Miraj railway line will cover a distance of 700 meters.

This significant development was marked by the inauguration ceremony attended by Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Dada Pawar, and Minister Chandrakant Dada Patil.

The project owes its realization to the relentless efforts of Sunil Kamble, the MLA of Cantonment Vidhan Sabha Constituency, who championed the cause since his tenure as Chairman of the Municipal Standing Committee. Following his election as MLA in 2019, Kamble continued to advocate for the project, securing funding from both the state government and his MLA fund.

The resolution of this forty-year-old problem brings relief to the residents who had long clamored for flyovers over these busy railway lines. With approximately 104 trains traversing the Solapur railway track daily and another hundred on the Miraj route, the incessant closure of railway gates caused perpetual traffic congestion in the Ghorpadi village area. The newly constructed bridges are poised to alleviate this deadlock significantly.

Furthermore, residents of Pune and the camp area endured arduous traffic to access the Mundhwa-Keshavnagar-Kharadi area. The exponential urbanization in Mundhwa, Ghorpadi, and Kalyaninagar over the past two decades compounded commuting woes. Overcoming bureaucratic hurdles, including securing permissions from the Defense Department, was crucial. Notably, in 2016, a transfer of 4,560 square meters of cantonment area facilitated the construction of the Miraj Marg bridge.

In a collaborative effort, the municipality will compensate the camp council with Rs. 10 crores for the construction of 34 houses, necessitated by the Miraj Marg bridge passing through their premises. Additionally, the municipality plans to construct eight houses along Miraj Marg.

The newly constructed bridges stand as follows:

Pune – Solapur Railway Bridge
Length – 1010 meters
Cost – 48.50 crores

Pune – Miraj Railway Bridge
Length – 636 meters
Cost – 48 crores

The inauguration ceremony witnessed the presence of former Minister of State Dilip Kamble, MLA Siddharth Shirole, former mayor Muralidhar Mohol, and numerous other citizens, marking a momentous step towards smoother transportation in the region.
