In a bid to address the long-standing issue of uneven drainage chamber lids, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has begun the repair work of approximately 1,500 lids across the city. The initiative aims to level the lids on prominent roads and key arterial stretches by the end of this month.

The decision comes after numerous commuters raised concerns about the uneven lids, citing hardships and risks, particularly for two-wheeler riders. While commuters have welcomed the administration’s initiative, they have also expressed apprehensions about the quality of repairs and advocated for an instant audit of the work.

The issue of uneven and broken lids has been raised by former corporators and local leaders from various areas. According to PMC officials, a third-party agency conducted a survey of the chamber lids, and the repair work has been undertaken based on the recommendations. “We have started the levelling work from Sahakarnagar,” a civic official said.
