PMC cancels plans of burial ground in Kondhwa’s Amenity Space
The plan to construct a Muslim burial ground in the Kondhwa amenity area at Survey No. 44 has been cancelled by the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC). Residents opposed the proposal because they felt it was inappropriate to have a burial ground in a busy community area.
As per further information from the X handle of Shiv Sena Pune chief Pramod Bhangire “The local citizens brought to my notice that the then ex corporator and some so-called office bearers, who compromised for financial matters, had proposed to approve a Muslim burial ground instead of a playground at Survey No. 44 in Kondhwa Khurd.
On that, I explained the facts to the PMC Commissioner and discussed the immediate cancellation of the burial ground proposal, immediately met the popular Chief Minister of Maharashtra state, Eknath Shinde, in Mumbai and requested him to instruct the Pune Municipal Corporation regarding this proposal. Immediately, the PMC cancelled the proposal for the burial ground in Kondhwa.”
As per further information, for the burial ground, the 5128 square meter amenity space was chosen. Nonetheless, the neighborhood objected because the site was close to residential societies, which had about 15,000 people living in them. Children can play in the amenity space, and the PMC had provided funding for a football field there.
The proposal was met with opposition from Shiv Sena city chief Nana Bhangire, BJP city president Dhiraj Ghate, and former MLA Yogesh Tilekar, who pointed out legal restrictions on the construction of a burial ground in a residential area. About this, a complaint was made to the PMC. Hence, the PMC administration chose to cancel the proposal in response to the objections, taking into account the worries expressed by local officials and citizens.
