PMC Initiates Local Area Plan Around Several Pune Metro Stations
The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has initiated a transformative journey with its Local Area Plan (LAP) focused on areas within 500 meters of four key metro stations: Vanaz, Swargate, Pune railway station, and Ramnagar-Baner. The aim is to foster both residential and commercial activities, leveraging higher Floor Space Index (FSI) as per the Unified Development Control and Promotion Regulations (UDCPR). This initiative aligns with the goal of promoting transit-oriented development.
Under the LAP, PMC plans to integrate city-wide mobility and infrastructure enhancements with localized accessibility improvements. This will involve natural urban renewal and planned redevelopment strategies. To incentivize development, PMC will offer additional FSI and allow conversion of residential properties to commercial use. To reduce reliance on private vehicles, parking will be restricted, promoting metro feeder services and public transport alternatives.
Furthermore, PMC aims to revitalize slum areas, creating more commercial spaces to attract businesses and enhance revenue streams. Stakeholder consultations are pivotal, ensuring community feedback shapes the LAP. Following discussions, the draft LAP and accompanying plans will undergo PMC review before publication.
With a targeted 10-month timeline, PMC’s LAP signifies a holistic approach towards sustainable urban growth, enhancing both livability and economic vibrancy around Pune’s burgeoning metro network.
