Pune: In order to take action against the illegal rooftop hotels across the city that are operating without necessary permits, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has organized a joint meeting with the district administration, police, and state excise team on Thursday, September 14.

As per information, bars and hotels are being set up illegally on the rooftops of buildings in the city without any legal permission. Also, the residents living nearby have sent numerous complaints to the civic body requesting them to take strict action against these illegal hotels. Also, if there is a fire in the hotel, there is not enough space for the customers to go out and the lives of the citizens may be threatened. Therefore, considering all this, the PMC has decided to take action against such hotels.

As per information, to curb these illegal activities, the PMC levies three times the tax on the hotels; however, due to political pressure hoteliers are starting hotels again. Meanwhile, Pune Police has sent a letter to the district administration and PMC asking that the hotels in the airport area be closed as they are causing law and order issues.

Meanwhile, the PMC has taken a stand that the hotels should not operate in such illegal places. A No Objection Certificate (NOC) should be obtained from the Municipal Corporation before granting a license to a businessperson to sell liquor. The PMC has sent a letter to the District Collector in this regard, stating that permission will not be granted for hotels to operate if the construction rules are violated.

Against this backdrop, a meeting of PMC, District Administration, Police and State Excise Department officials has been organized on Thursday, September 14.
