Pune : The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is in talks with the Khadki Cantonment Board (KCB) in connection with the widening of underpasses near Khadki Railway Station. If agreed upon, the Khadki Cantonment Board (KCB) is expected to give land for free to the PMC for widening purposes.

Speaking to Pune Pulse, Sahebrao Dandge, Superintendent Engineer, PMC Road Department, said “There are 3 underpasses near the Khadki Railway Station. They are proposed to be widened. However, currently, it is not even in the initial stages. They are just in discussion as of now. This widening is being thought about in the wake of huge traffic congestions & issues. The current widening of the underpasses is so narrow that if a vehicle stops in the underpass, the entire underpass might get blocked. Hence, it will be widened.”

As per further information shared by Dandge, as of now, this widening is only proposed to the Khadki Cantonment Board. Recently, a meeting took place between PMC Commissioner Vikram Kumar & Khadki Cantonment Board CEO Robin Baleja where this was discussed & pondered upon. Due to the metro passing from there, the height cannot be increased. Even the railway track of the Railway Station cannot be alleviated much.

So, firstly, a survey & feasibility check will be done of all the underpasses regarding widening purposes, etc. Then, a decision is likely to be taken soon about widening.
