PMC Releases List of Top 100 Property Tax Defaulters; ₹334.10 Crore in Arrears
Pune, [Current Date] – In a bid to counter allegations of biased actions and intensify revenue recovery, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has released a list of the top 100 property tax defaulters in the city. These defaulters collectively owe ₹334.10 crore, with the highest individual defaulter accruing dues of ₹18.44 crore and the lowest on the list owing ₹1.36 crore.
PMC Intensifies Recovery Drive
To enhance tax collection, the PMC Property Tax Department has adopted aggressive measures, including playing bands outside defaulters’ properties, asset confiscation, and property sealing. This crackdown over the past two months has instilled fear among tax evaders.
Additionally, the civic body has assigned Peth-wise inspectors with daily recovery targets, visiting 300 properties per day to collect dues. However, in response to allegations that small businesses were being unfairly targeted, PMC has published the top defaulters’ list to ensure transparency.
Government Institutions Owe ₹93 Crore
Alongside private defaulters, several government institutions also owe substantial property tax, with arrears amounting to ₹93 crore. The Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) tops the list among government entities, with dues of ₹23.21 crore. The defaulters’ list includes 438 government-owned properties, though 10 of them have arrears of less than ₹1,000.
PMC Urges Immediate Payment
The PMC administration has reaffirmed its commitment to recovering these dues and has urged defaulters to clear outstanding payments promptly to avoid further legal action. With the intensified recovery drive, the civic body aims to bridge revenue gaps and enhance municipal services for Pune residents.
