The Pune Municipal Corporation has taken a decision to resurface nearly 140 kilometres of roads in the city.

To ensure that potholes are not formed again on the repaired roads, PMC has decided to deploy the latest technology using a falling weight deflectometer machine.

With the help of a deflectometer machine, road conditions can be detected. The machine can decide on how much material is needed for resurfacing, apart from measuring the before and after condition of the road.

In the first phase, a total of 109 kilometres have been resurfaced.

“We are using the latest techniques for repairing roads. The roads are sure to have a long and better life. We plan to use it for other places too,” said Vijay Kulkarni, chief engineer, road department, PMC.
