PMC’s Fire Heroes: President’s Fire Service Medal Awarded to Two Firemen

In a remarkable recognition of their selfless dedication, PMC‘s Fire Engine Driver Karimkhan Faizalkhan Pathan and Ambulance Attendant Narasimha Basappa Patel are set to receive the prestigious President’s Fire Service Medal from the Government of India on August 15, 2023.

Karimkhan Pathan began his journey as an ambulance attendant at PMC in 1988 and rose through the ranks to become a Fire Engine Driver in 1997. Over his 36 years of service, he has consistently demonstrated extraordinary courage and commitment. Notably, he successfully rescued individuals trapped in various fire incidents, such as the shops in Ravivar Peth and the Crossworld BookShop blaze at Pune Station in 2016. His swift actions also saved lives during a hoarding collapse in Mangalwar Peth in 2018, as well as during fire incidents at Ganesh Peth, Patil Estate Slum, and Sassoon Hospital. His strategic guidance prevented further loss of life and property.

Similarly, Narasimha Basappa Patel, who served as an ambulance attendant in PMC since 1998, has exemplified unwavering dedication. Throughout his 25-year tenure, Patel has played a pivotal role in rescuing and providing timely medical aid to numerous citizens during fires, accidents, and calamities. He showcased remarkable bravery during the Law College Road petrol pump fire, Kashewadi slum blaze, and the Mangalwar Peth incidents in 2003. Additionally, his quick thinking and valorous efforts led to the safe rescue of individuals stranded during heavy rains in Katraj and Dhankawadi.

Chief Fire Officer Devendra Potfode, alongside fellow officers and personnel, wholeheartedly congratulated Karimkhan Faizalkhan Pathan and Narasimha Basappa Patel on this commendable achievement. Their unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives and property serves as an inspiring testament to the spirit of public service and heroism.
