PMC's Self Help Group Diwali Exhibition gives platform to over 700 groups - Pune Pulse

Pune: On the occasion of Diwali approximately 700 women from Self Help Groups (SHG) in Pune participated in the sale and exhibition of goods produced by them. The event was sponsored by Pune Municipal Corporation’s (PMC) Social Welfare Department.
As per information from a press release by Nitin Udas, Deputy Commissioner, PMC Social Welfare Department, the sale & exhibition was organized from November 3 to 8 from 10:00 a.m. to 9.00 p.m. It was organized at the following places in Pune city:
- · PL Deshpande Udyan, Sinhagad Road
- · Opposite Telephone Exchange, Baner
- · New Vegetable Market, Vadgaon Sheri
- · Near Cummins College, Karve Nagar
- · Katraj Milk Dairy, Katraj
- · Chhatrapati Sambhaji Raje Udyan, Shivaji Nagar
A total of 678 women self-help groups in Pune City participated in the savings bazaar organized at the above six places. In this, 582 stalls of goods and 96 stalls of food were set up. In this, 589 stalls of self-help groups of Pune Municipal Corporation were set up and in addition to this, a total of 89 stalls of social organizations, disabled, Zilla Parishad and individual business groups were set up.
The said exhibition was held with the main purpose of encouraging the said self-help groups as well as making the goods produced by them available in the market.
There has been a financial turnover of more than Rs 40 lakh for the self-help groups through the sale & exhibition.
Citizens gave a huge response to the said exhibition and boosted the enthusiasm of women in self-help groups. Citizens have expressed their opinion that this initiative of the Municipal Corporation to provide women in self-help groups with a better market is highly commendable and that such programs should be organized from time to time.
