Pune: The Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) administration is currently undertaking measures to enhance passenger convenience by expanding the fleet of its buses. As per the information, the PMPML is planning to add 300 CNG buses to its existing fleet.

The procurement process for these buses has already commenced as part of an effort to reduce reliance on contractors by introducing alternative e-buses. The current shortage of buses within the PMPML has negatively impacted passenger convenience, prompting the administration to prioritize the increase in bus numbers. The decision to acquire CNG buses was made during a meeting of the PMPML’s board of directors.

Consequently, the Mechanical Department has initiated the tender process for the procurement of these buses. As per the information received, buses will have a length of 12 meters, and the bus procurement process is expected to be completed expeditiously.

Following the completion of the tender process for self-owned buses, the process of acquiring contractor buses will commence. The augmentation of the bus fleet will bring about significant benefits for passengers. Moreover, with the increase in passenger numbers, the PMPML’s revenue is also expected to rise.

After the strike, the PMPML administration took several important decisions. It was decided to increase the number of CNG buses and train PMPML drivers to run CNG and e-buses. This is an attempt to reduce the dependence on contractors by switching to e-buses.

Speaking to Pune Pulse, Satish Gate, PMPML’s PRO added, ”100 buses will be procured directly by the PMPML, while the remaining 200 buses will be obtained through leasing arrangements. Within the next 6 months, these buses will be operational and available for passenger service.”
