Pune: To attract more commuters Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML)’s board of directors have decided to go ahead with the proposal of providing Wi-Fi service in its buses.

“We are planning to give Wi-Fi service in all the buses. A trial was held to explore non-ticketing revenue and to attract more people to increase ridership. Ten days back we had conducted one trial and it was successful so it was converted into Expression of Interest,” said Chetana Kerure, Joint Managing Director of PMPML.

The board of directors meeting was also attended by Pune Municipal Corporation civic chief Vikram Kumar and Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation chief Rajesh Patil.

“Once we get all specifications and collect all the details, a tender will be called and further procedure will be completed. The concept is on the very primary level as we are trying to attract youth who are shifted to two-wheelers,” added Kerure.

In the past PMPML had planned to provide Wifi services in buses in 2018 but the project did not continue further. Along with Wifi, PMPML is also planning to add electric boards in all the buses to get advertisements.

“In a few buses we can see electric boards and we are planning to expand it in all the buses. It is also part of generating revenue under not ticketing revenue,” added Kerure.
