Pune: The Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Ltd (PMPML) is about to launch a digital payment service for its travellers. They’re testing it internally right now to make sure everything goes smoothly. The digital payment service will make it convenient for travellers to pay for the ticket online.

As per the information, once the trials become successful, some of the routes will be chosen for further on-road trials of the service. Once the service is up and running, a digital payment sticker will be placed on the doors of the buses. After the successful on-road trials, several buses will be included in the project and all of them will have the sticker of QR code.

Setting up a PMPML digital transaction system is more complex than setting up a vegetable vendor system. They are aiming for 30-40 seconds for the payment confirmation to reach the passenger and PMPML, as well as the bank. The on-route testing based on the technical milestones of the project would take around 3-7 days.

Digital payments will be an effective solution as there are several incidences of disputes between travellers and conductors over giving change, conductors not being able to properly keep a check whether every passenger has a ticket or not due to crowding in buses and so on.

Pune Pulse tried to contact the relevant PMPML official but couldn’t connect.
