PMR Growth Hub Plan Set To Boost Pune Metropolitan Region; Rs 40,000 Crore Fund Approved
Pune, March 26, 2026: The Pune Metropolitan Region is set to receive a major development boost under the ‘PMR Growth Hub Plan’, with NITI Aayog approving a fund of approximately Rs 40,000 crore. Minister of State Madhuri Misal assured the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly that the plan will accelerate sustainable growth across the region.
The announcement came after MLA Mahesh Landge raised urgent demands for the all-round development of the Pune Metropolitan Region (PMR) during the concluding day of the budget session. Landge emphasized the region’s strategic importance as a hub of economic growth and called for long-term, integrated planning.
Highlighting ongoing projects under Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis’s leadership, MLA Landge noted significant progress in metro expansion, ring road construction, multimodal transport hubs, river conservation, and industrial development. Coordination between PMRDA, MahaMetro, PMPML, and local civic bodies is driving infrastructure improvements in both urban and rural areas.
To ensure sustainable and effective development, Landge proposed several measures, including:
- Time-bound completion of metro and ring road projects
- Strengthening river pollution control and wastewater management
- Preparing integrated plans to prevent unplanned development
- Enhancing facilities in MIDC industrial areas
- Promoting alternative energy projects to reduce pressure on Mahavitaran
Landge also stressed the need to preserve the identity of religious and historical sites such as Shrikshetra Dehu, Alandi, Bhimashankar, and Vadhu Tulapur, urging the government to recognize them as religious places rather than tourist spots.
Addressing water concerns in Pimpri-Chinchwad, Minister Misal confirmed the government’s commitment to supply an additional 100 MLD from the Pawana Dam, alongside accelerating the Andhra and Bhama Askhed projects. Proposals to reserve 760 MLD from Mulshi Dam are under consideration, and a time-bound action plan will coordinate efforts across the Water Resources Department, Municipal Corporation, PMRDA, MIDC, and district administration.
Minister Misal emphasized that these initiatives aim to ensure fast, planned, and sustainable development while securing long-term water management solutions for the rapidly growing population of Pimpri-Chinchwad.
