PMRDA Chief Reviews Hinjawadi–Shivajinagar Metro Work; 12 Stations Targeted For Launch By May 2026
Pune, March 20, 2026: The much-awaited Metro Line 3, connecting Hinjawadi to Shivajinagar, has reached its final phase, offering major relief to commuters, especially IT professionals working in Hinjewadi IT Park. The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has set a target to operationalise 12 stations in the first phase by May 2026.
PMRDA Metropolitan Commissioner Dr. Abhijit Chaudhari conducted an on-ground inspection of the project on Thursday (March 19) and reviewed the progress in detail. Acting on the directives of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, the project is now being executed in mission mode to ensure timely completion.
Following a review meeting held at PMRDA’s Aundh office on Wednesday, Dr. Chaudhari, along with senior officials, inspected all 23 stations along the 23.2-km elevated corridor between Maan and Shivajinagar. Officials present during the visit included Chief Engineer Rinaz Pathan and CEO of Pune IT City Metro Rail Limited (PITCMRL), Anil Kumar Saini.

The Commissioner instructed contractors to accelerate the pace of work without compromising on safety and quality. Instead of relying solely on reports, he personally assessed construction quality, technical challenges, and the current status of each station.
The project has achieved 94.20% completion so far, with signalling trials currently underway. Inspections by RDSO and CMRS have also been completed. Once operational, the metro is expected to significantly reduce traffic congestion in Hinjewadi and enable faster travel between Shivajinagar and Hinjewadi within minutes.
Metro Line 3 is the country’s first metro project implemented under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. The 23.2-km corridor is being developed by Tata Group’s TRIL in partnership with Siemens Project Ventures, at an estimated cost of Rs 8,313 crore.
